Recent Buy (DIS): June 29, 2015

Disney seems to be doing everything right these days. I love this company for what it represents and also for the technical data. Long term, Disney is going to be a great company to hold for years to come. I remember walking through the Magic Kingdom when I was 5 years old with a look of pure amazement on my face. Even 30 years later, it still holds a special place in my heart... and now a place in my portfolio.

  • Bought 6 Shares of DIS @ $114.12 which adds $6.90 to my forward Dividends.

Stats:

Current EPS: $4.65
Current Dividend: $1.32 Yearly (paid $0.66 semi-annual)
Payout Ratio: 28%
P/E: 24.31
Years Paying: 34

Based on the recent announcement to start paying a dividend twice yearly, it appears Disney is appealing more to the Dividend investors. From the Disney website:

""Disney delivered significant increases in revenue, net income and EPS for the first half of fiscal 2015. We are pleased to raise our dividend 15% on an annualized basis, as well as increasing the frequency of our dividend payments,” said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company"

My thinking is that the dividend is going to start increasing fast with the EPS estimates for the next several years:
2015: $5.06
2016: $5.67
2017: $6.32
2018: $6.88

Thats nice looking EPS growth! Add onto it the Star Wars movie coming out in December of this year (2015). Finding Dory, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Jungle Book all coming out in 2016. Disney sure looks appealing.

Any thoughts on Disney??

  1. Adam,

Disney is an excellent company and isn't going anywhere soon. I live near their southern California park and despite multiple price increases, the place is practically bursting at the seams. Plus, they've got the whole Pixar thing going for them. Oh, right, and the Lucasfilm franchise like you mentioned.

    I think that's a great choice!

Also, thanks for enabling the Name/URL option for leaving comments.

  2. Thanks for your thoughts FM!

I find that fascinating too regarding the price. I think they offer quite an experience for the price. Look at the cost of a movie that only lasts a few hours and is not interactive at all. At Disney, you are creating lifetime memories. I should write for Disney marketing eh? :)
